We are 117 committed individuals working on
CVCACs staff and Board to bring 17 programs and services to low income Vermonters,
primarily in Washington, Orange, and Lamoille counties.
Those programs and services include:
Our Vision
To effect within Central Vermont, the
Economic Opportunity Act of 1964 as amended, which has as it's purpose the
elimination of poverty in the midst of plenty in this nation by opening to
everyone the opportunity to live in decency and dignity.
Our Mission
CVCAC help's people achieve economic
sufficiency with dignity and supports individual and family development.
Our goals are to alleviate the effects of poverty, to assist individuals and
families to move out of poverty and to advocate for long-term system change
for economic justice.
Partnerships with People Working for Vermonters
We affirm our commitment to the intent of the Economic
Opportunity Act of 1964, "to eliminate poverty in the midst of
plenty." As outlined in CVCAC's By-Laws, the Agency's purpose is to
develop and conduct programs designed to eliminate poverty and ensure that
such programs maximize the Agency's mission of outreach, organization,
advocacy, and empowerment of low-income individuals.
To promote these purposes, we have declared our intent
to:
1.
Develop research and evaluation procedures in connection with all
programs
2.
Contract with existing or new community agencies for the conduct and
administration of services.
3.
Act as a Community Development Corporation.
4.
Receive and disburse program funds.
The Agency's guiding principles in designing and
delivering services include:
Outreach: providing information, education,
support services, and referral to empower those individuals in greatest
need;
Advocacy: promoting programs and policies that
provide opportunities for self-reliance and promote equal opportunity for
all members of our communities;
Empowerment: working with individuals to develop
their skills and abilities so that they can speak and act on their own
behalf;
Organizing: working with individuals and groups
to identify common problems, establish goals, and take appropriate
actions.
