Our Vision

To effect within Central Vermont, the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964 as amended, which has as it's purpose the elimination of poverty in the midst of plenty in this nation by opening to everyone the opportunity to live in decency and dignity.

Our Mission

CVCAC help's people achieve economic sufficiency with dignity and supports individual and family development.  Our goals are to alleviate the effects of poverty, to assist individuals and families to move out of poverty and to advocate for long-term system change for economic justice.

Partnerships with People Working for Vermonters

We affirm our commitment to the intent of the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964, "to eliminate poverty in the midst of plenty." As outlined in CVCAC's By-Laws, the Agency's purpose is to develop and conduct programs designed to eliminate poverty and ensure that such programs maximize the Agency's mission of outreach, organization, advocacy, and empowerment of low-income individuals.

To promote these purposes, we have declared our intent to:

1.     Develop research and evaluation procedures in connection with all programs

2.     Contract with existing or new community agencies for the conduct and administration of services.

3.     Act as a Community Development Corporation.

4.     Receive and disburse program funds.

The Agency's guiding principles in designing and delivering services include:

Outreach: providing information, education, support services, and referral to empower those individuals in greatest need;

Advocacy: promoting programs and policies that provide opportunities for self-reliance and promote equal opportunity for all members of our communities;

Empowerment: working with individuals to develop their skills and abilities so that they can speak and act on their own behalf;

Organizing: working with individuals and groups to identify common problems, establish goals, and take appropriate actions.
