Central Vermont Community Action Council is the fiscal agent for the Vermont Irene Flood Relief Fund – where donations will go to support small local businesses to get up and running. This vital part of the recovery will help the beating heart of our Vermont communities – the little shop downtown, the restaurant on the corner, the repair shop down the street. Click to give.
You can also support a local family in need by giving to our Family Flood Relief & Recovery Fund.
Thank you.

Young moms at Community Action's Family Literacy Center helped design and create a mural depicting their vision for a safe, nurturing and peaceful environment in which to raise their children who are at the heart of the community. The Planting Seeds of Change Mural Project was the culmination of a year-long wilderness skills, gardening, cooking, and herbalism progrown which added art as a tool for reflection, documentation and expression. The mural was installed on August 23rd on Summer Street in Barre.

Everyone knows that floods bring damage, devastation and mess. But you don’t often think of empty fridges and shelves as flood damage. Last week Community Action's Barre Food Shelf saw 150 area families.
“We’re seeing people who lost their food supplies, and don’t have cash to replace their food staples. They are just stretched to the limit – and that’s what the food shelf is here for,” says Evans. The food shelf has been seeing higher demand as the slow economy drags on and low-income Vermonters find their resources exhausted. The flooding has hit these Vermonters hardest. We need immediate help to re-stock our Barre food shelves! Cash or food items are both welcome. Individuals or organizations interested in hosting a food drive to support the Community Action food shelf are invited to contact Kevin Wiberg at 479-1053 or kwiberg (at) cvcac.org. Download the flyer. or Donate online now.
Thank you.
